NOW IN FRANCE: Mysterious Drones Detected Over French Nuclear Submarine Base – Troops Reportedly Shoot at Them – Prosecutors Launch Investigation
The ‘phantom drones’ are now in France.
While no one is suggesting that Russia—or any other major power—is above using “hybrid” tactics, a growing number of drone incidents in Europe appear questionable, with limited or no verifiable evidence. Some observers are even questioning whether certain reports are exaggerated or staged.
The latest episode involves multiple drones reported over the Île Longue submarine base in Finistère, France, home to the nation’s nuclear ballistic missile submarines. French forces reportedly responded to the sightings, and a judicial investigation has been launched by the military prosecutor’s office in Rennes. According to Le Monde (translated from French):
“’Sensitive infrastructure was not threatened’ by this overflight, Commander Guillaume Le Rasle, spokesperson for the maritime prefecture, told Agence France-Presse (AFP).”

Five drones were detected on the evening of December 4, prompting the Marine Battalion to carry out anti-drone measures. The Rennes prosecutor’s office told AFP that no drones had been shot down, and no pilots had been identified. Public prosecutor Frédéric Teillet clarified that “no link with foreign interference is therefore made,” noting that marines had deployed a jammer rather than firearms against the drones.
🇫🇷 The French Navy confirmed that air defence units were activated last night at around 7:30 PM after five unidentified drones entered restricted airspace over the île Longue nuclear submarine base.

Commander Le Rasle added that it is “too early to characterize” the drones’ origin. He also suggested that the flights over Île Longue may have been “intended to worry the population.”
The pattern of such incidents raises broader questions: Are these drone sightings genuine security threats, or are some part of a larger media narrative—or even psychological operations—aimed at creating public concern?
