I kissed my best friend’s husband
DEAR ABBY:
I’m struggling with my integrity and an important friendship. My friend “Beth’s” husband, “Jerry,” came to my house to help with a construction project. After discussing the work, we sat down to visit. He was very forward and overly affectionate. It’s been 10 years since I’ve experienced any affection, so part of me was flattered. He also said that affection doesn’t have to “mean anything,” which I partially agree with.
I told him his behavior was inappropriate, but I didn’t stop us from kissing before he left. I know it was wrong and I am certain it won’t happen again. I’m afraid to contact him directly because there’s a chance Beth could find out, and I couldn’t bear for her to know. I value her friendship deeply and don’t know if Jerry has told her anything.
I’m panicked that I may have jeopardized a treasured friendship. How can I handle this?
