Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Monday recommended implementing a “full travel ban” on several as-yet-unnamed countries she says are sending dangerous individuals into the United States. The announcement followed her meeting with President Trump earlier in the day.

“I just met with the President,” Noem wrote on X. “I am recommending a full travel ban on every country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”

She added that America’s founders built the country through “blood, sweat, and an unyielding love of freedom — not for foreign invaders to harm our people, drain taxpayer resources, or take benefits owed to Americans.” Noem emphasized her position bluntly: “We don’t want them. Not one.”

According to a DHS spokesperson, the administration expects to release the list of affected countries “soon.”

The proposal marks another step in the administration’s tightened immigration response following last week’s Thanksgiving-eve attack on two West Virginia National Guard members in Washington, D.C. Officials had already suspended all asylum decisions and launched a review of more than 720,000 green card holders from 19 “countries of concern” after authorities said Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, fatally shot Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and critically injured Andrew Wolfe, 24, near the White House.

In addition, the State Department has paused visa processing for travelers using Afghan passports.

Lakanwal, who previously served in a CIA-supported Afghan military unit, legally entered the U.S. in 2021 under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome, which resettled Afghans following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. He was granted asylum in April, making him eligible to apply for a green card after one year.

Last week, Noem condemned the suspect’s admission into the country, saying he was “one of the many unvetted, mass paroled into the United States under Operation Allies Welcome.” She declined to repeat his name, saying she did not wish to give him “the glory he so desperately wants.”
