Authorities in Oklahoma have arrested a 37-year-old woman accused of causing the death of her husband by allegedly running his vehicle off the road after becoming upset over his communication with another woman.

Tamara Lachelle Wood faces charges of second-degree murder and reckless driving in the death of 40-year-old Justin Wood. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the Seminole Lighthorse Police Department responded around 3:30 p.m. on September 27 to a two-vehicle crash in the 12000 block of Highway 59.

Officers found a heavily damaged 2005 BMW SUV that appeared to have rolled over. Justin Wood was found nearby, showing no signs of life, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second vehicle, a 2007 Volvo XC-90, sustained minor damage to its right front bumper.

Tamara Wood, the driver of the Volvo, told Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers that both she and her husband were traveling at high speeds, estimating they were going “ninety something.” She claimed her husband suddenly slammed on the brakes, causing her to crash into his SUV, which then rolled over multiple times, ejecting him. The affidavit noted that the couple had argued earlier at their son’s basketball game after she discovered he was speaking with another woman. Tamara Wood reportedly tried to follow him so they could talk. Witnesses described her vehicle as being “bumper-to-bumper” with his moments before the crash, with one witness estimating speeds possibly exceeding 100 mph.

Justin Wood’s mother told police that her son and his wife had four children together but had been separated, and he was considering filing for divorce. On the day of the crash, she recalled him calling:
“Momma, she’s trying to run me off the road! She’s trying to run me off the road! Momma! Momma! Momma!”

She then heard “metal scraping” and the sound of the vehicle crashing, according to the affidavit. Two of the couple’s children told authorities that their mother had been upset about texts their father exchanged with another woman and that she caused “a scene” at the gym before following him outside in her vehicle.

Now, their four children have lost their father, and their mother faces serious prison charges. “He’s the best dad that I could ever ask for,” 13-year-old Wyatt Wood told local ABC affiliate KOCO. “He’s the reason I am the way I am and the reason I play sports and love basketball.”

The District 22 District Attorney’s Office issued the arrest warrant on Friday. Tamara Wood was arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to KOCO, and remains in the custody of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

District Attorney Erik Johnson told local ABC and NBC affiliate KTEN, “We’re going to hold her responsible for her actions that resulted in the death of her husband.”
