Ruckus raised by rambunctious kids rattles new neighbor
DEAR ABBY:
I recently purchased a first-floor condo because I have a knee disability; otherwise, I would have chosen a unit on the second floor of our two-story complex. I live here only part-time, as my husband is not yet ready to retire.
The owner above me has two children who frequently jump off their kitchen counter onto the floor, sometimes as late as 10 p.m. The noise shakes everything in my kitchen cabinets. I spoke with the property manager, who is willing to issue violation notices that could eventually lead to fines. I haven’t pursued this, however, because I’m worried about possible retaliation—broken windows or vandalism to my car—since I would have no proof of who did it.
We can’t afford to move to a more expensive community. My husband and I once knocked on her door to introduce ourselves as neighbors, but she was dismissive. What would you advise in this situation?
