HORROR: Man with 49 Prior Arrests Douses Woman with Gasoline, Sets Her on Fire While Screaming “Burn B*tch!” Aboard Chicago Train (VIDEO)
A 26-year-old woman was critically injured Monday night after a man allegedly doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire aboard a Chicago Blue Line train, according to federal authorities.
The suspect, 50-year-old Lawrence Reed, has been charged in federal court with committing a terrorist attack on a mass transit system. Charging documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois say Reed poured an accelerant on the woman and ignited it while the train was in the Loop.
Witnesses reported hearing Reed yell as the victim tried desperately to extinguish the flames. Good Samaritans on the train ultimately helped put out the fire before emergency responders arrived. The woman suffered severe burns to her face and body and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Police responding to the Clark/Lake station around 9:30 p.m. discovered a partially melted bottle, lighter, and other items believed to have been used in the attack at the victim’s seat, according to the federal complaint.
Reed has an extensive criminal history. CBS News Chicago reported he has been arrested 49 times, including 10 felony cases. Some were later dropped, while others resulted in convictions ranging from probation to jail time, including a two-year state prison sentence for a 2003 drug case.
Chicago police records cited by Fox News show at least 13 arrests since 2017, involving charges such as battery, criminal damage to property, trespassing, disorder-related offenses, and a 2020 aggravated arson case involving people present.
Reed remains in custody as the federal investigation continues.
