Drunk Driver In Florida Tries Blaming It On Medical Condition He Can’t Pronounce

‘You’re impaired:’ Florida man arrested for driving into oncoming highway traffic
Christopher Johnson, 44, charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license
LADY LAKE, Fla. – A Wildwood man was arrested earlier this month after police say he was spotted driving into oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 27/441.
Lady Lake police reported that calls about a reckless driver near County Road 25 and Griffin Avenue began just before 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.
“Callers reported a red Ford passenger car swerving, crossing lanes, and nearly hitting other vehicles,” the department said in a release.
An officer soon located the car as it turned onto U.S. Highway 27/441, traveling south in the northbound lanes while other drivers swerved to avoid a collision. Police blocked traffic and stopped the vehicle near Water Oak Boulevard.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Christopher Johnson, showed signs of heavy impairment and could not stand unassisted. Officers also observed open alcohol containers inside the vehicle. Breath tests revealed readings of 0.245 and 0.236, nearly three times the legal limit.
Video released by the department shows an officer asking Johnson to follow his finger with his eyes. Johnson struggles to respond clearly, citing difficulty with a medical condition he refers to as “EFD.” The officer tells him, “We do believe you’re impaired.”
Johnson admitted to drinking earlier in the night and has prior DUI convictions as well as a suspended license. He was arrested, and his car was towed. He now faces charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license (DWLS) and was released on a $15,000 bond.
“Our officers acted quickly and decisively to stop this vehicle before someone was seriously hurt,” Police Chief Steve Hunt said. “Driving into oncoming traffic is extremely dangerous, and their fast response prevented what could have been a tragic outcome for innocent drivers.”
