A Florida man is facing felony charges after allegedly confronting a man who sold his 15-year-old daughter a THC vape cartridge, according to police.
Alan Olson, 40, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say the alleged dealer reported being “in fear for his life” after Olson staged a fake meeting at a Circle K gas station in Volusia County on Sunday, Nov. 16, to confront him and threaten him with a handgun.
Police say the dealer, anxious during the encounter, failed to notice a red traffic light while fleeing the gas station, resulting in a collision with an uninvolved motorist. Olson allegedly called out to the man, taunting him about the crash, while his hands remained at his sides. The dealer told police he believed Olson was still armed.
According to the arrest affidavit, Olson became suspicious after noticing his daughter acting “weird and funny” following a family visit. The teen asked for money to buy ice at the Circle K but instead purchased a THC cartridge. Olson allegedly reviewed his daughter’s phone messages and saw her conversation with the dealer. He then posed as a buyer, arranging a meeting at the gas station to confront the man.
When Olson arrived in his Chevrolet Colorado, the alleged dealer noticed a suspicious silver pickup truck parked behind him. Olson reportedly revealed a silver and black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the man drive him home to speak with his parents, threatening to kill him if he refused. Fearing for his life, the alleged dealer fled, leading to the crash.
Afterward, Olson reportedly experienced a panic attack at home, with his wife helping to calm him. She told police the couple initially decided to go to the Circle K after receiving a message from the dealer claiming Olson “was going to jail for a long time,” but they were stopped by police en route.
Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood emphasized the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands. “Then you would not be going to jail for brandishing a firearm and threatening to shoot somebody,” Chitwood told local NBC affiliate WESH. “I get it. I understand the anger was there, but that is not how you do business; that’s how you get yourself in more trouble.”
A barber who witnessed the confrontation described the scene to WESH: “When the cops came in, they came in from everywhere. … We could see it from the window. Somebody done messed up.”
Olson was released on bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 18, court records show.
