PORT SAINT LUCIE, Fla. — A Florida man allegedly opened fire outside a bar earlier this month following an argument over chickens and egg production.

Peter Riera, 44, called 911 on Nov. 4, claiming he had been robbed and was being chased by two men and a woman outside Harper’s Pub, according to Port Saint Lucie police. The three individuals — Brandon Pace, 23; his girlfriend Kayla Damiana, 26; and Tyler McHargue, 23 — told officers they had met Riera that night, who they were introduced to as “Farmer Pete.”

What began as a casual conversation about chickens and how many eggs they can lay reportedly escalated when Riera became paranoid that the trio was trying to “jump” him, police say. He allegedly accused them of attempting to “con” him and fired four rounds at the group while they fled. No injuries were reported.

Body camera footage obtained by CBS 12 shows Riera, wearing jean overalls and without shoes, being arrested outside the pub. The encounter was chaotic for the victims as well. Pace allegedly kicked two officers while being detained and was charged with resisting an officer with violence and two counts of battery on law enforcement officers. Damiana ran toward officers during the arrest and was charged with resisting an officer without violence; she was released on a $500 bond. McHargue cooperated with police and was not charged.
