A Florida woman remains in jail after police say she threw a knife at her boyfriend’s head over a $5 payment he reportedly sent to another woman through a mobile app.

Danielle Banks, 34, was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest, with her bond set at $75,000. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Banks was looking through her boyfriend’s phone on Thursday when she saw the small transaction to a “female friend.”

The report states that Banks became upset, confronted her boyfriend, and called him derogatory names. The situation escalated when she allegedly struck him multiple times in the mouth, tearing and blood-staining his shirt. Police say Banks then retrieved a kitchen knife and threw it “overhand” at his head, cutting his face.

Banks reportedly fled the home in Marathon in her car. A nearby U.S. Border Patrol agent began following her in an unmarked vehicle until she stopped a few blocks away at an apartment. Sheriff’s deputies soon arrived, and Banks allegedly tried to hide in her vehicle before being detained.

During questioning, Banks told police she had thrown a plate into the sink and claimed a shard might have caused the injury, but she soon invoked her right to remain silent.

Her boyfriend declined to give a written statement or allow deputies into the home to retrieve the knife, citing that the property did not belong to him. He received treatment from first responders and left with a family member after gathering his belongings.

Banks was booked into the Monroe County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 21.
