Democratic Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized Thursday morning after suffering a fall near his home in the Pittsburgh area, though his office says he’s “doing well.” According to his spokesperson, Fetterman was out for his usual morning walk when he experienced a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up” that caused him to feel lightheaded, fall, and sustain minor facial injuries.

He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital out of what his team called “an abundance of caution.” Doctors determined that the episode was related to his heart condition, and Fetterman has chosen to stay in the hospital temporarily so physicians can adjust his medications.

Fetterman, who recently joined a bipartisan group of senators voting with Republicans to reopen the government, joked about the incident, saying, “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”

The 56-year-old lawmaker has been candid about his health challenges, including his recovery from a major stroke during his 2022 Senate campaign and his ongoing treatment for depression, according to SpotlightPA.
