Nancy Pelosi’s Daughter Launches Her Own Political Career, Announces Run

Christine Pelosi, daughter of longtime Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, has officially announced plans to run for California’s state Senate in 2028, representing San Francisco.

The Democratic activist and attorney confirmed her candidacy in an interview with KQED-TV, saying her recent work campaigning for Proposition 50 helped inspire the decision.

“Because our rights are under attack, because having just come out of Prop. 50—organizing around the state with working families, swing voters, and people in every corner of San Francisco—I know how excited and enthused people are to participate, and at the same time, how concerned they are,” Pelosi said. “I believe my experience as an attorney, author, advocate, wife, and mom prepares me to represent our community.”

Pelosi emphasized that her campaign will focus on affordability, women’s rights, and what she called “power for the people.” On her campaign website, she highlights her work combating sexual harassment, promoting gun control, and fighting discrimination.

She also addressed San Francisco’s affordability crisis, particularly for public workers and families. “AI is going to be a force for good or a force for ill,” she said. “We have to make sure that our school teachers, our firefighters, our hospital workers, and our tech workers can afford to be part of the community.”

Pelosi’s announcement comes shortly after her mother, Nancy Pelosi, declared she will not seek re-election to Congress after nearly 40 years representing San Francisco. The younger Pelosi had previously been rumored to be considering her mother’s House seat, but she chose to pursue the state Senate instead.

“Those are amazing stilettos that no one can fill,” she said, praising her mother as “the greatest speaker” and “most powerful representative” San Francisco has ever had. “I wish everybody luck in that race for Congress.”

San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman has also announced plans to run for the same state Senate seat in 2028.

The seat Pelosi seeks will not officially open until that year, but her early announcement positions her as a major contender in what’s expected to be a high-profile race.
