Louisiana middle school student arrested after AI-generated nude photos of female student was shared

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) — Authorities in Lafourche Parish say one student has been charged following an investigation into the creation and sharing of explicit, AI-generated photos of classmates at Sixth Ward Middle School.

Sheriff Craig Webre confirmed that a male student faces 10 counts of unlawful dissemination of images created by artificial intelligence. The investigation began on August 26, 2025, after reports surfaced that several male students were circulating fake nude images of female students both on a school bus and on campus.

The situation escalated when one of the alleged victims confronted a male student on the bus, leading to a physical altercation. That 13-year-old girl was later expelled by the school district, sparking public outrage and prompting her attorneys to speak at last week’s Lafourche Parish School Board meeting.

“Her image was taken by artificial intelligence and manipulated and manufactured to be child pornography,” said attorney Matt Ory, who represents the student alongside Benjamin Comeaux. The attorneys criticized the school for allowing both students to ride the same bus after administrators had been alerted to the AI-generated photos earlier that day.

“She was forced to endure bullying with her naked picture circulating among classmates,” Comeaux said.

Sheriff Webre said the female student involved in the altercation will not face criminal charges, citing the circumstances of the incident.
“Due to the totality of the situation, we chose not to pursue charges against the female student,” he said. “The rise of AI has made it far easier for anyone to alter or create explicit images with little or no expertise. This case underscores a growing issue that all parents must discuss with their children.”

The male student’s charges fall under Act 142, a law authored by Sen. Patrick Connick (R-Marrero) and signed by President Trump last year. The legislation makes it illegal to create or share AI-generated nude images of a person without their consent.

Sheriff Webre noted that investigations of this type can take weeks or even months to complete due to the complex digital evidence involved. “Our detectives are committed to ensuring accountability for everyone responsible,” he said.

Legal experts say the case highlights the challenges lawmakers face in keeping pace with rapid advances in artificial intelligence.
“Science always outstrips the law,” said Fox 8 legal analyst Joe Raspanti. “In the 1980s, it was surrogate parenthood and DNA testing. Now it’s AI, and once again, the law is trying to catch up.”
