Video Shows How the BBC Edited Trump’s 2021 Speech Version that aired spliced together comments about an hour apart

The Guardian has released a video highlighting the ongoing controversy at the BBC over its editing of President Trump’s speech on the day of the Capitol riot.

The version aired in a BBC documentary appeared to show Trump saying: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.”

In reality, during the speech, Trump told the crowd: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them,” according to the New York Times. The part of the speech referencing “and we fight …” came nearly an hour later.

The fallout has been significant: two senior BBC officials have resigned, the broadcaster’s chairperson has issued an apology, and President Trump is threatening legal action.
