WASHINGTON — President Trump has granted a pardon to former Mets star Darryl Strawberry, who pleaded guilty to tax fraud in 1995 and served 11 months in a Florida state prison for drug-related offenses.
A White House official confirmed Friday that “President Trump has approved a pardon for Darryl Strawberry, three-time World Series champion and eight-time MLB All-Star.”
“Mr. Strawberry served time and repaid back taxes after pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion,” the official added. “Since retiring from baseball, he has embraced Christianity, remained sober for more than a decade, and become active in ministry, founding a recovery center that continues to operate today.”

Strawberry, 63, was sentenced to three years’ probation and repaid $350,000 in back taxes following his guilty plea.
The pardon applies only to the federal tax conviction and does not clear the drug-related charges, which were prosecuted at the state level.
