A left-wing activist with a violent past has been elected to public office in Bangor, Maine — raising alarm over the kind of individuals being elevated by progressive voters.

Angela Walker, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2003 for the brutal killing of a man in Old Orchard Beach, won a seat on the Bangor City Council this week. She was elected alongside fellow progressive candidates Susan Faloon and Daniel Carson, according to The Maine Wire.

Walker, who now works as a “peer services coordinator” for the Bangor Area Recovery Network and has spoken publicly about her struggles with addiction, served 10 years in prison for her crime. Despite her record, voters chose to give her a position of influence over local policy.

Court documents describe the crime as particularly gruesome. In 2002, Walker and others attacked 34-year-old Derek Rogers, a Canadian tourist, after an argument reportedly involving a racial slur. Rogers was beaten and suffocated to death — police later found his body buried in sand on the beach in Ocean Park, a section of Old Orchard Beach.

Critics argue that Walker’s election reflects a troubling pattern among left-leaning voters who appear increasingly willing to overlook violence and extremism within their own ranks.

In another recent example, Democrat Jay Jones — who once fantasized about killing Republicans — was elected Attorney General of Virginia on Tuesday. As National Review reported, Jones sent disturbing text messages in 2022 suggesting he would kill then–Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and expressed twisted wishes involving Gilbert’s family.

These developments highlight a broader concern that radicalism and moral decay have seeped into Democratic politics — from local offices to high-profile state roles.

As the nation looks toward the next general election under President Trump’s leadership, many are asking whether the Democratic Party will continue to elevate individuals with such alarming pasts and beliefs.
