About to be a Florida McFuneral

‘About to be a McFuneral’: Woman says she was ready to defend kids from gun-toting McDonald’s worker

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A South Florida McDonald’s drive-thru erupted into chaos Sunday morning when a worker allegedly pulled a gun on a family after a long wait for food.

Chayton Timmons said she was in the car with her pregnant daughter, her 1-year-old granddaughter, and several other family members when the incident occurred.

According to authorities, the dispute began after the family waited more than an hour for their order at the McDonald’s located at 4686 NW 183rd St. in Miami Gardens. Timmons said a confrontation arose with 19-year-old cashier Anthony Markeith Elliott III, who allegedly refused to give them their food.

“We were looking at each other, me and my goddaughter, like, ‘Why are you upset?’” Timmons recalled. “He was like, ‘I don’t have to give you anything. What did you just say?’ And then he clutched at his waist.”

Police said Elliott then brandished a firearm at the family.

Timmons, who previously survived a shooting, said she immediately called 911. “I said, ‘This is going to go one of two ways. Miami Gardens Police Department: you need to get here, because someone could die,’” she said.

Describing the situation with blunt humor, Timmons added, “Listen, this mother wants to make McGriddles or McChicken, because this is about to be a McFuneral at this McDonald’s. I don’t play these types of games.”

She said she went into protective mode for her family. “He has a death wish. There’s no way I’m going to let him do anything to my kids,” she said.

“All over McNuggets,” Local 10 News reporter Rosh Lowe noted.

“All over McChicken,” Timmons replied. “He must want to put my kids in harm’s way, and that’s a problem for me. I’m not that type of parent.”

Elliott was arrested on five counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

In a statement, the franchise owner emphasized, “The safety of our crew and customers is our top priority, and we have a strict no-weapons policy in our restaurants. We’re offering full cooperation to local authorities as they investigate this incident.”

Elliott has since been fired.
