SWEETWATER, Fla. — A Florida woman is in custody after allegedly threatening to kill a supermarket employee with a nail clipper during a failed robbery attempt.

Police say 47-year-old Katricia Humphrey was arrested Tuesday after she tried to rob a Sedano’s supermarket in Sweetwater. According to authorities, Humphrey became enraged when a 70-year-old store clerk refused her request to take a box of cigarettes on credit, promising to pay later.

When the clerk declined, Humphrey reportedly grew “irate” and refused to leave the store. Investigators say she then “armed herself with a nail clipper,” motioning as though she were going to stab the clerk, while shouting threats including, “You will die.”

Police say Humphrey managed to get behind the counter and grabbed a carton of cigarettes before the clerk confronted her. Despite her threats, the clerk was able to retrieve the stolen items. Witnesses quickly intervened, surrounding Humphrey and preventing her from escaping until police arrived.

Officers arrested Humphrey at the scene. She now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a person over 65, armed robbery, and petit theft.

Humphrey is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $15,001 bond as the investigation continues.
