While much of the country focused on elections yesterday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made headlines for comments during her appearance on the Caleb Hammer Podcast.
Whitmer said she does not want to “relive” the policies she implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic—a period when Michigan was widely criticized for some of the strictest pandemic restrictions in the country.
During the podcast, which focuses on financial issues, host Caleb Hammer, who has over 2.6 million YouTube subscribers, questioned Whitmer about the state’s COVID-19 rules. Hammer described his experience visiting Michigan for Christmas during the pandemic, noting that he was only able to eat outdoors in “inside-outside” pods.
Whitmer acknowledged the unusual nature of the restrictions, saying, “Remember what the temperature was. Here [in Texas], you can walk around outside all day, right? But at home, in Michigan, in the winter, we’re all inside breathing on each other.”
Hammer pressed further, asking why outdoor dining arrangements had limitations, and Whitmer responded, “Listen, Caleb, none of us wants to go back and relive that. We were doing the best we could with very little or very bad information.”
Whitmer’s remarks come amid growing speculation about potential 2024 presidential candidates, suggesting that her COVID-19 record could be revisited if she enters the race—similar to other governors like Gavin Newsom.
