Dramatic CCTV footage from the Netherlands captured the shocking moment a high-speed passenger train slammed into a cargo truck loaded with thousands of pears.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. on October 30, when the truck driver crossed a railway level crossing — only to inexplicably reverse back onto the tracks. With cars blocking both sides, the truck became trapped as warning gates began to lower.
Footage shows nearby drivers frantically reversing in an attempt to avoid the impending disaster. Within seconds, the oncoming train collided with the truck at full speed, scattering debris and fruit across the area.
Local safety authorities confirmed that five people sustained minor injuries, including the truck driver and several passengers aboard the train. “Services removed approximately 400 passengers from the trains and transported them to their intended destinations,” officials reported.
Dutch transport agency ProRail, which released the footage, said they hoped it would “raise awareness and improve behavior at railway crossings.”
“It’s shocking to watch and shows how quickly things can go wrong,” a ProRail spokesperson said. “It’s better to damage a barrier than risk a life. If you’re ever stuck between the barriers — keep driving.”
ProRail added that repair work has been underway since the wreckage was cleared. “We now have a clearer picture of the full extent of the damage,” they said on November 1. “Repairs will take longer than initially anticipated.”
