New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has asserted that most Americans are “disgusted” by President Donald Trump and his administration’s actions.

Less than a year after his decisive landslide victory over Kamala Harris, President Trump has already delivered—or begun delivering—on much of the agenda he promised during his campaign.

In a recent video posted to social media, Ocasio-Cortez declared that Trump’s popularity has plummeted, insisting that “Donald Trump is less popular than he has ever been. He is underwater on virtually every issue.” She added, “If you oppose and are disgusted by what his administration is doing, you are in the company of a majority of Americans. You are not alone.”

The congresswoman continued, “More people disapprove and are opposed to this administration than they are in support of this administration. Those are the numbers.”

However, polling data does not appear to support her claims. National approval surveys indicate that President Trump’s popularity has remained largely steady—and even increased slightly in recent weeks.

Three weeks into the ongoing government shutdown, CNN data analyst Harry Enten noted that Trump’s approval had ticked upward rather than declined.

“This shutdown hasn’t eaten into Donald Trump’s support at all,” Enten said. “His net approval rating is actually up a point in terms of popular support. The bottom line is this: the first shutdown during Trump’s first term in 2018–2019 was hurting Donald Trump. This one is not hurting him at all. There’s no real reason Donald Trump might say, at least when it comes to popular support, ‘I want to get out of this shutdown.’”

The current shutdown stems largely from the Democratic Party’s refusal to accept significant spending cuts proposed by the administration to curb the rapidly growing federal deficit.

As a result, thousands of essential federal employees—including border patrol agents, air traffic controllers, FBI personnel, firefighters, and TSA screeners—have gone without pay since the standoff began.
