A Yavapai County judge has resigned following a bizarre public incident in Prescott, Arizona, in which she was filmed urinating in public while intoxicated, authorities said. Her husband, a town official, was arrested while attempting to prevent police from questioning her.
Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore Kristyne Schaaf-Olson, 42, was seen emerging from shrubbery around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, according to video obtained by Fox 10. Police responded after multiple witnesses reported seeing the judge urinating in public.

“This is disgusting,” one officer told Schaaf-Olson, who, according to an affidavit, was so intoxicated she struggled to spell her own name but emphasized that she was a judge.
Her husband, Jason Olson, the parks and recreation manager for the Town of Chino Valley, attempted to pull her away, repeatedly ignoring officers’ commands. Video shows an officer telling him, “I’m going to throw you on the ground if you resist,” before taking him into custody.
“She has her pants completely down. I’m watching her right there, she’s peeing everywhere,” one officer explained to a colleague. Schaaf-Olson was cited for urinating in public.

Two days later, she resigned from her position. In a statement, Schaaf-Olson cited personal, medical, and family circumstances, saying:
“The Yavapai community deserves judges who are steadfast in their commitment to serving Yavapai County. Considering current events in my life, I believe it would be difficult to honor this commitment. I have therefore decided to resign.”
Presiding Judge John Napper expressed respect for her decision. Her replacement will be appointed by the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court and approved by county leaders. Schaaf-Olson has also self-reported to the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct, which is reviewing the incident.

Schaaf-Olson had been appointed to her role in October 2023, and her final day on the bench is Friday.
Jason Olson was cited for resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation, and obstruction of government operations. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18.
