TOKYO — Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday informed President Trump that she has nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, joining a growing number of world leaders calling for the honor to recognize his global peace initiatives.

A White House official told The Post that Takaichi privately “told the president she nominated him and presented him with the papers” during their meeting — a move warmly received by the commander in chief.

The announcement came shortly after the two leaders signed a historic declaration marking the beginning of what they called a “Golden Age” in U.S.-Japan relations. The agreement included a July trade deal reducing tariffs on Japanese goods to 15% and pledges of cooperation on rare-earth and critical minerals amid Chinese export restrictions.

While details of Takaichi’s formal nomination letter were not disclosed, she publicly praised President Trump for brokering the recent cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

“In such a short period of time, the world started to enjoy more peace on the ground. And in this context, I highly value your unwavering commitment towards peace and stability,” Takaichi said during their joint appearance.

Takaichi, a conservative protégé of the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, also pledged to donate 250 flowering cherry trees and sponsor a July 4th fireworks display next year in honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary.

President Trump praised Takaichi for her leadership and noted that Abe had long spoken highly of her abilities and vision for Japan.

The Japanese leader’s endorsement adds to a growing list of world figures nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recently submitted his own nomination in gratitude for Trump’s successful mediation to end a brief border war with Thailand in July.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also nominated Trump earlier this month, citing his role in ending two years of conflict in Gaza and halting hostilities between Pakistan and India in May.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev jointly pledged to write to the Norwegian Nobel Committee recognizing Trump’s role in ending their nations’ decades-long territorial conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated President Trump in July for helping bring an end to his nation’s war with Iran, following targeted U.S. strikes that dismantled Iranian nuclear facilities.

Trump’s efforts have also been lauded by Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe for mediating peace between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo — support echoed by African leaders including Guinea-Bissau’s Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Gabon’s Brice Oligui Nguema, and Senegal’s Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Speaking Monday, President Trump said he takes deep satisfaction in helping resolve international conflicts.

“I shouldn’t say it’s a hobby, because it’s so much more serious than that — but it’s something I’m good at, and it’s something I love to do,” Trump said.

The president added that he is now focused on easing tensions between Pakistan and Taliban-led Afghanistan, as well as pursuing peace between Russia and Ukraine. He has credited his administration with helping resolve eight global conflicts so far this year.

The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually by a five-member committee appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, honors achievements from the previous calendar year. This year’s laureate, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, dedicated her award to President Trump, praising his global peace efforts.
