Author Stephen King once again proved that his imagination extends far beyond the pages of his novels, after falling for a satirical post about President Donald Trump and the World Series.

On Sunday, King and several other critics of the president pounced on what they thought was a genuine social media post in which President Trump allegedly said he would refuse to invite either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Toronto Blue Jays to the White House. The fake post read:

“No matter who wins, I will refuse to invite either baseball team to my ballroom as they are both run by highly inept officials from California and Canada. I don’t host losers. We are actively investigating MLB.
This World Series is rigged, probably by Dems and the Mafia.”.

King reacted furiously on X, accusing President Trump of being unable to “rise above his petty political concerns even for the great American game.” He went on to call the president a “louse.”

There was only one problem — the post was completely fake.

Social media users quickly pointed out to King that President Trump never made any such statement. In reality, the president’s only public comments on the World Series were published on the official White House website, and they struck an entirely different tone.

President Trump’s genuine message celebrated America’s favorite pastime and the spirit of competition that defines it:

“Each fall, as the World Series begins, America returns to one of its oldest and most beloved traditions. Baseball is woven into the fabric of the American story… The World Series stands as baseball’s crowning moment, where players rise to the occasion and fans across the country share in the excitement beneath the bright lights.”

The statement went on to honor baseball’s place in U.S. history and the resilience it represents through generations — from soldiers playing during the Civil War to families finding comfort in the sport after 9/11.

“As the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays compete for the Commissioner’s Trophy, they remind us why baseball brings friends and neighbors together,” President Trump wrote. “Melania and I send our best wishes to the players, coaches, and fans for a fun and safe series. May the best team win, and may God bless our national pastime and the United States of America.”

In the end, King’s attempt to mock the president backfired — and served as yet another reminder to check the facts before taking fiction for reality.
