In Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Illinois, taxpayers are funding one of the most alarming sanctuary state scandals yet—an illegal alien serving as a sworn police officer, complete with a taxpayer-funded salary, benefits, and pension.

Radule Bojovic, an illegal alien from Montenegro, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Operation Midway Blitz on October 15. According to ICE officials, Bojovic had been living unlawfully in the United States for more than ten years after overstaying a B-2 visitor visa that expired on March 31, 2015.

Despite his unlawful status and his ineligibility to possess a firearm, Bojovic was sworn in as a police officer with the Hanover Park Police Department, a suburb of Chicago.

Records from the police department and the Hanover Park Pension Fund Board of Trustees show that Bojovic received a starting salary of $78,955.70, with his total taxpayer cost reaching $205,707 in 2025 alone. That figure includes salary, benefits, and nearly $9,300 in FICA and Medicare taxes—all paid by Illinois taxpayers.

The revelation that an illegal alien was not only hired as a police officer but also permitted to carry a firearm and qualify for a pension has sparked outrage across the state. Federal law clearly prohibits illegal aliens from owning or possessing firearms under any circumstances.

ICE Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the situation, warning that political agendas must never compromise law enforcement integrity. She argued that under Governor Pritzker’s sanctuary policies, violent illegal aliens have been allowed to threaten Illinois communities—and in this case, even enforce the law themselves.

“Radule Bojovic broke U.S. immigration laws and lived in this country illegally for a decade,” McLaughlin said. “It’s beyond comprehension that any police department would hand a badge and a gun to a criminal illegal alien.”

ICE officials added that this is the second known case in recent months where an Illinois police department hired an illegal alien and unlawfully issued a firearm for official duty.

Critics say such reckless policies not only undermine public safety but also burden hardworking taxpayers, forcing them to subsidize illegal activity. With Bojovic now in ICE custody, questions remain about how he was ever allowed to wear a badge, collect a paycheck, and enforce laws he himself was breaking.

Supporters of stricter immigration enforcement have called on state leaders—and the federal government under President Trump—to ensure that no illegal alien is ever again placed in a position of public authority.
