Police Search Apartment of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Son; Roommate Arrested on Weapons Charge

Authorities in Minneapolis executed a search warrant at an apartment connected to the son of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar this week, leading to the arrest of a 22‑year‑old man on a firearms charge. Omar’s son was present during the search but was not arrested or charged, according to police.

The incident began earlier in the day when officers conducted a routine traffic stop involving Abdulrahman Abdi, who was cited for driving without a license and without proof of insurance. After Abdi’s vehicle was impounded, police say they discovered a firearm inside. That discovery prompted investigators to seek a warrant for Abdi’s residence, which he shares with Omar’s son, Adnan Omar.

Officers entered the apartment later that afternoon, recovering additional firearms and ammunition. Abdi was taken into custody on a weapons‑related charge. Minneapolis police emphasized that Adnan Omar was cooperative during the search and that no evidence linked him to the weapons found.

Rep. Omar’s office has not issued a detailed public statement, but a spokesperson confirmed that her son “is not a suspect in any investigation.”
