Naked Polk City Woman Accused of Punching Firefighter Who Tried to Cover Her, Deputies Say
POLK CITY, Fla. — A late-night battery call in Polk City turned bizarre when deputies encountered a naked and allegedly intoxicated woman who ended up punching a firefighter trying to help her, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a home on Cypress Trails Drive around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a possible battery. When they arrived, they spoke with a victim who said she had been hit, bitten, and strangled by 24-year-old Laylani Jonquille Sullivan.
The victim also told deputies that Sullivan had been drinking heavily before the incident and was completely naked outside the residence when they arrived.
As deputies attempted to calm her and take her into custody, they said Sullivan resisted arrest and refused repeated commands to cooperate.
At that point, a female firefighter with Polk County Fire Rescue, who was assisting deputies on the scene, attempted to help cover Sullivan with a blanket or piece of clothing for modesty and safety reasons.
That’s when the situation turned violent once again. According to the sheriff’s office, Sullivan punched the firefighter in the chest, knocking her back but not causing any injury.
“She was combative and uncooperative from the moment we arrived,” investigators noted in their report. “Even when help was offered, she lashed out.”
Deputies eventually restrained Sullivan and placed her in handcuffs. She was transported to the Polk County Jail, still unclothed, where she was booked on multiple charges.
Sullivan now faces four charges:
-
Battery by strangulation
-
Battery on a firefighter
-
Resisting an officer with violence
-
Resisting an officer without violence
The sheriff’s office said the firefighter was not injured and did not require medical treatment.
Authorities did not release further details about what may have led to the original altercation between Sullivan and the victim, though alcohol is believed to have played a major role in the disturbance.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the case remains under review, and additional charges are possible pending the results of their investigation.
