Since President Trump resumed office in January, border security has been a top priority. However, officials note that the presence of illegal aliens inside the United States remains a significant issue, a situation many attribute to policies under the Biden administration.

Federal authorities, including ICE, have continued efforts to apprehend those entering the country illegally. At the state level, law enforcement agencies like the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are actively working to intercept illegal activity.

DPS: Teen arrested after pursuit in south Laredo tied to smuggling attempt

Earlier this week in Webb County, Texas DPS pursued a pickup truck suspected of human smuggling. The vehicle, driven by Damian Cantu, was found carrying multiple illegal aliens. Cantu reportedly stopped to let some passengers out during the pursuit before attempting to flee on foot. DPS troopers apprehended him and charged him with evading arrest and multiple counts of human smuggling. He stated he was being paid $250 per person for transporting them.

With assistance from Border Patrol, authorities took eight individuals from Mexico and Guatemala into custody. These enforcement actions highlight the continued need for both federal and state-level cooperation in addressing border security.

Constitutionally, Article IV, Section 4 grants the federal government the responsibility to protect states from invasions and domestic threats, emphasizing the role of government in maintaining law and order.

Officials say the recent arrests are a sign that law enforcement and rule of law are actively being enforced under the current administration.
