Hamas allegedly violated the ceasefire that was brokered by President Trump on Sunday, prompting Israeli strikes in parts of the Gaza Strip, Israeli officials and international outlets reported.
An Israeli official told Fox News that militants fired on Israeli forces “beyond the yellow line,” including an RPG and sniper fire aimed at military personnel. Israel said both incidents occurred in areas it controls east of the withdrawal line and called the actions “a bold violation of the ceasefire.”
In response, Israeli forces carried out strikes in northern and southern Gaza, according to Reuters, which said the exchanges represented one of the gravest tests of the truce so far. Reuters reported that the strikes killed multiple people and caused civilians to flee southern towns.
The ceasefire arrangement — announced by President Trump and described as the first phase of a broader, 20-point plan — called for mutual restraint, the release of hostages and an Israeli withdrawal to an agreed line. International officials and mediators have warned that any planned attacks on civilians or other major breaches would undermine the deal.
The U.S. State Department said it had “credible reports” that Hamas might be planning attacks on Palestinian civilians in Gaza, a move the department characterized as a serious breach of the agreement; Hamas denied the allegation. The State Department and other guarantors have urged all parties to abide by the ceasefire’s terms.
President Trump posted a forceful warning on social media after the reported incidents, saying that if Hamas continued to carry out killings in Gaza the U.S. and its partners would respond.
