GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — A Gainesville woman faces battery charges following a violent altercation with her boyfriend early Sunday morning.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2:45 a.m. to reports of someone screaming for help at a home on 75 SW 75th St. Upon arrival, they found the victim shaken, short of breath, and with injuries to his neck, arms, and back.

According to authorities, 35-year-old Maya Taylor became physically aggressive toward the victim after an argument over her alcohol use at another location. Back at their home, Taylor reportedly picked up a pair of scissors and threatened to harm herself.

The report states the victim managed to take the scissors away, after which Taylor allegedly scratched, punched, and bit him in the genital area.

Deputies noted this is Taylor’s second offense, which upgrades the charge to felony battery. Taylor and the victim have been in a relationship for about seven years and share a child.

Taylor is currently being held at the Alachua County Jail.
