My sister is trying to kill my 98-year-old mother
DEAR ABBY:
I live about five hours from my hometown, where my 98-year-old mother resides in an assisted living facility. In recent years, my younger sister’s behavior toward our mother has become increasingly cruel and manipulative.
Instead of helping or supporting Mom, she seems to go out of her way to upset her—sometimes in shocking ways. For instance, she once placed dog feces on our recently deceased brother’s grave and stole a firearm from Mom’s home. She even threatened to take away Mom’s recliner while she was sitting in it.
My sister’s behavior has caused serious problems at the assisted living facility, which has been distressing for Mom, especially since she truly loves the staff and care she receives there. My older brother and I have consulted an attorney and are working to obtain a no-trespass, no-contact order to protect Mom, though the process is ongoing.
To make matters worse, my sister presents herself as a saint at her church, convincing everyone she’s the victim. Abby, how should we handle this hateful, out-of-control sibling moving forward?
