Transgender Sentenced To Prison For Concealing Biological Reality From Man During Sex Act

A 21-year-old British individual, Ciara Watkin, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man by deception over biological sex.

According to prosecutors, Watkin misled the victim into believing he was female, claiming to be “on [his] period” to prevent any physical contact below the waist. Later, Watkin sent a text message confessing a “massive secret” — revealing he was biologically male. The victim then reported the incident to police.

A jury convicted Watkin in August of two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration. The Teesside Crown Court heard that Watkin had not undergone any gender reassignment surgery and used clothing to pad a bra, The Sun reported.

Detective Constable Martin Scotson said the case centered on “true consent,” explaining that Watkin “purposely concealed [his] sex,” and the victim “would not have consented had he known the truth.” The Crown Prosecution Service stated that the deception prevented the victim from giving informed consent.

The two initially met on Snapchat, where Watkin used a female cartoon avatar before meeting in person.

In a statement read to the court, the victim said he was “physically sick” after learning the truth, describing feelings of shame, embarrassment, and ridicule online. He added, “I don’t swing that way.”

Recorder Peter Makepeace told the court he was “certain” the victim believed Watkin was a woman “from start to finish,” emphasizing that the deception was the driving factor in the offenses.

Watkin will serve 21 months in custody, must register as a sex offender for 10 years, and is prohibited from contacting the victim for life.
