Nobel Committee Snubs President Trump Despite Record of Ending Eight Wars
Despite President Donald Trump’s unprecedented record of bringing peace and ending eight wars since taking office, the Nobel Committee has once again denied him the Nobel Peace Prize—offering what many see as a weak and politically motivated explanation.
Instead, this year’s prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who was recognized for her “tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
When questioned about the committee’s decision to overlook President Trump, Nobel Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes dismissed the idea, implying that Trump sought too much public attention to be considered worthy of the honor.
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaigns and media attention,” Frydnes said. “We receive thousands of letters every year from people expressing what they believe leads to peace. This committee sits in a room filled with portraits of all laureates—men and women of courage and integrity—and we base our decisions solely on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
In essence, the committee appears to have disqualified President Trump not on the basis of his record, but his personality—a move critics have called “pathetic.”
Steven Cheung, the President’s communications director, condemned the decision, stating bluntly:
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”
While María Corina Machado has shown remarkable bravery in her fight against Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, there is no denying that no world leader has achieved more for global stability and peace than President Trump.
Since taking office, President Trump has successfully ended conflicts in:
-
Armenia and Azerbaijan
-
The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda
-
Israel and Iran
-
India and Pakistan
-
Cambodia and Thailand
-
Hamas and Israel
He also brokered peace in two other major conflicts during his first term:
-
Egypt and Ethiopia
-
Serbia and Kosovo
For context, Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize simply for winning the presidency—before his administration went on to start multiple wars and drop over 26,000 bombs on seven countries.
By contrast, President Trump has accomplished what few leaders in modern history have achieved: bringing peace to regions long consumed by conflict—without launching a single new war.
