I’m a pathological shoplifter — I can’t stop myself from stealing
Dear Abby advises a woman who is addicted to stealing.
DEAR ABBY:
I need help. I’m a woman in my 50s — married, educated, and, sadly, a kleptomaniac. I’m deeply ashamed of it.
It began a few years ago after I accidentally left an item in my shopping cart without paying. Ever since, I’ve found it far too easy to slip things into my bag — shoes, makeup, jewelry, clothes.
I feel completely out of control. I know it’s wrong, and every time I promise myself I’ll stop, I end up doing it again. I desperately want to end this destructive cycle, but I’m too embarrassed to tell anyone.
Please, tell me what to do.
