Costco shopping cart fight

NYPD searching for suspects after fight over cart at Costco in Brooklyn

SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) — Police are investigating a violent confrontation that took place inside a Brooklyn Costco over the weekend.

The incident occurred Sunday just before 4 p.m. at the Sunset Park location, according to the NYPD. Video shared on social media shows two men arguing over a shopping cart, which escalated to one striking the other in the head.

Authorities report that the 42-year-old victim also hit his head on a cart during the altercation and received treatment for injuries to his forehead and eyelid. Two other individuals involved in the fight fled the scene.

Shoppers say that while violence is never acceptable, the store and its Third Avenue parking lot are often overcrowded.

“There’s a lot of tension here, from the parking lot to inside. It feels like there’s limited space and resources, which is ironic, but I’m not terribly surprised,” said Yizhou Jiang, a Costco member.

Other customers agreed that shopping at the location can be stressful. “I see the frustration on people’s faces when they’re shopping,” said Gary Mirabelle. “It’s tough to come here—you just want to get in and get out.”

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
