Man Disguises Himself as Woman, Allegedly Films Secret Encounters With Over 1600+ men in China

A scandal in China involving a middle-aged man who allegedly posed as a woman to secretly film intimate encounters with hundreds of men has sparked a storm of debate on social media, raising alarms over public health, privacy, and marital fidelity.

On Tuesday, the hashtag “red uncle” surged to the top of China’s popular Weibo platform, amassing over 200 million views as stunned users reacted to the claims.

Online reports alleged that the man, from the eastern city of Nanjing, had enticed 1,691 men into sexual encounters at his home, recording and distributing the videos online.

Nanjing district police confirmed on Tuesday that the suspect, identified only by his surname Jiao, had been detained on Sunday for allegedly spreading obscene material. Authorities clarified that Jiao is 38 years old—not 60, as some online posts claimed—and denied reports that he had relations with more than 1,000 men, though they did not provide an alternative number.

Jiao has not publicly responded to the allegations. In China, while homosexuality has been decriminalized since 1997, the distribution of sexual images remains illegal, and recording intimate acts without consent also violates privacy rights, carrying potential criminal consequences.

The revelations have fueled intense discussion online, with some users warning of possible public health implications. “This could be a major headache for epidemic prevention authorities,” one commenter wrote.

Adding to the controversy, images circulated online showing a montage of nearly 100 men said to have met the so-called “red uncle.” Some users joked that women should check whether their partners appeared in the photos, while others condemned the invasion of privacy. “Publishing such compilations is reckless and irresponsible,” one user warned.
