A halftime performance during the Alabama State University vs. University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football game has ignited widespread backlash after a broadcaster’s on-air comments about the ASU Honey Beez dance team.
Instead of focusing on the group’s high-energy performance, the announcer drew attention to the dancers’ body size, even referencing “Ozempic,” a medication commonly discussed in connection with weight loss. His remarks, which aired live, were widely criticized as inappropriate and offensive.
The Honey Beez, known for their skill, confidence, and commitment to body positivity, were performing their routine when the commentator interrupted with remarks that many described as body shaming. In a clip that quickly went viral, he can be heard saying, “I was looking at the Alabama State dancers… I’m looking at the new face of Ozempic.”

The comment was immediately seen as dismissive of the dancers’ abilities, reducing the spotlight to their appearance rather than their talent. Viewers across social media platforms—including X, TikTok, and Instagram—expressed outrage, calling the remarks unprofessional and disrespectful. Many came to the Honey Beez’s defense, praising them as athletes who inspire confidence and inclusivity.

The backlash has sparked calls for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to take disciplinary action against the announcer and issue a formal apology to Alabama State University and the Honey Beez. Some fans even speculated the announcer’s comments may have stemmed from a personal grudge, though this has not been confirmed.
The controversy has fueled a larger discussion about body image, respect for performers of all body types, and the role of broadcasters in setting the tone for live sporting events. As of now, it remains unclear what action—if any—will be taken against the announcer.
