Armed federal agents in tactical gear moved into downtown Chicago on Sunday as part of the latest immigration enforcement push ordered by President Trump, who declared, “Border Patrol will take no nonsense!”
Teams of federal officers were seen patrolling major tourist and shopping areas during the coordinated ICE round-up, which targeted what officials described as “the worst of the worst” illegal immigrants with criminal records.
Gregory Bovino, a Border Patrol chief, said, “We’ve always got a target that’s anyone who is here illegally.” Officials did not immediately confirm how many people were detained.

President Trump later shared video on Truth Social showing protesters confronting federal agents, reiterating his warning that enforcement officers would not back down.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker strongly condemned the show of force. Johnson said residents and visitors were being “intimidated by masked federal agents flaunting automatic weapons for no apparent reason,” while Pritzker accused the administration of using “camouflage and masks to instill fear in our communities and hurt our businesses.”

The deployment in Chicago comes weeks after President Trump threatened to send the National Guard into the city, and just days after similar actions in Portland, Oregon. There, clashes broke out outside an ICE facility as the president authorized “full force” to defend federal buildings against what he called “ANTIFA and other domestic terrorists.”
