Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey released a defiant video Thursday evening after being indicted on two federal charges—making false statements and obstruction of justice.

In his message, Comey portrayed himself as a victim of political persecution, claiming his family had long prepared for the “costs” of opposing President Donald Trump. “We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either,” Comey declared, adding that “fear is the tool of a tyrant.” He urged Americans to stay politically active and to “vote like your beloved country depends on it, which it does.”

Despite his fiery words, Comey insisted he is innocent and said he welcomes a trial. “My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system,” he said.

The indictment marks a dramatic turn for the man once entrusted with leading the nation’s top law enforcement agency. Political strategist Steve Bannon, reacting to the news, warned that Comey “won’t make it in prison,” calling the charges against him a “death sentence.”
