A 75-year-old school bus driver in Sugarcreek, Pennsylvania, is facing criminal charges after allegedly overheating a school bus and threatening young students onboard.

According to police, Harvey Sliker intentionally turned up the heat on the bus to nearly 100 degrees and ordered children, aged 5 to 12, to keep the windows closed as a form of punishment. Officers say multiple students exited the bus on Wednesday “crying and extremely sweaty,” prompting concerned parents to contact authorities.

Sliker reportedly told the children, “I am going to cook you all,” and threatened to bring a paddle to discipline them the following day.

The Valley Grove School District confirmed to KDKA-TV that the driver increased the heat as a disciplinary measure. The district said the contracted bus company immediately removed Sliker from the route and assigned a new driver the following morning.

“We take the safety of our students and school community very seriously,” district officials said in a statement. “We appreciate the parents who reached out to bring this matter to our attention.”

Sliker is charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, both misdemeanors. He has also been barred from all school district properties.
