Officers were alerted shortly after 2:30 a.m. about a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-4. They soon spotted a silver Toyota Camry driving westbound in the inside eastbound lane at approximately 60 mph.

Police attempted to pull over the driver, identified as 24-year-old Kristian Beall, but she refused to stop. Surveillance footage shared by Tampa police showed the Camry brushing against a marked patrol car while continuing the wrong-way drive on the interstate.

With assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), officers successfully stopped the vehicle using a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, then boxed it in with patrol cars.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw praised the officers and FHP for their quick, coordinated response, saying, “Their swift action prevented what could have been serious or even fatal injuries.”

Body camera footage captured officers instructing Beall to exit from the passenger side due to damage on the driver’s side door. When asked if she realized she was driving the wrong way, Beall appeared confused, responding, “No… this car? Are you serious?”

During questioning, Beall claimed her husband was driving them home, though an FHP trooper confirmed no one else was inside the vehicle.

Beall admitted to having a “full drink” at two bars earlier. After failing a field sobriety test, her breath alcohol content was recorded at .199 and .202—more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.

She was arrested and faces charges including DUI, aggravated fleeing to elude, and fleeing to elude at high speed. Beall was booked into Orient Road Jail.

Chief Bercaw emphasized, “There is absolutely no excuse for driving under the influence. Safe and affordable alternatives like ride-sharing, taxis, and designated drivers are available. Make the right choice to keep yourself and others safe on the road.”
