Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced Monday on social media that she will file a House resolution aimed at removing Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from all of her committee assignments. The move follows controversial comments Omar made during an interview regarding the recent death of conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was killed last week in what authorities are investigating as a politically motivated attack. His death has sparked widespread reaction across the political spectrum, particularly among conservatives who viewed him as a key figure in the movement.

During an interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan, Omar criticized Kirk’s past statements and questioned efforts to portray him as a champion of civil discourse. She pointed to previous remarks Kirk made on gun rights, racial justice, and Juneteenth, saying, “There’s nothing more messed up than to pretend his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

Rep. Mace condemned Omar’s remarks, characterizing them as a form of endorsement of political violence. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mace wrote:

“We’re filing a resolution to strip @Ilhan of her committee assignments after her disgraceful remarks on Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”

Mace further elaborated in a video recorded outside Omar’s congressional office, where she accused the Minnesota Democrat of “dehumanizing conservatives” and called for bipartisan accountability.

“She is inciting violence against conservatives… The Democrats set the standard for stripping committee assignments. Enough is enough.”

In recent years, committee assignments have become a political flashpoint in Congress. Democrats previously removed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and other Republican lawmakers from committee roles over controversial statements and conduct.

It is not yet clear whether Mace’s resolution will gain enough traction in the House to move forward, particularly in a closely divided chamber.

Rep. Omar’s office has not yet responded publicly to the resolution or Mace’s comments.
