Good Guy with a Gun Turns the Tables on 7-Eleven Robbers in Florida
A botched robbery attempt in Dania Beach, Florida, turned deadly Saturday evening when an intended victim armed himself and confronted the suspects.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. outside a 7-Eleven, according to WTVJ-TV. Police say 19-year-old Justin Kessel initially robbed a man at gunpoint in the store’s parking lot. After the first robbery, Kessel entered the store and allegedly robbed the clerk as well.
While Kessel was inside, the first victim retrieved a firearm from his vehicle. As Kessel exited the store, the victim confronted him and opened fire, hitting the suspect multiple times. The victim then held Kessel at gunpoint while waiting for police.
However, the situation escalated when a Honda CR-V—believed to be the suspects’ getaway car—approached. The victim told officers the driver attempted to run him over, but he avoided the vehicle and fired more shots, striking it.
Police later located the vehicle and found 40-year-old Melvin Presley inside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital but later pronounced dead.
Kessel was taken into custody and transported to Broward Health Medical Center. He faces two counts of armed robbery, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
