22-year-old stabs man in neck who ‘spent the night’ with her and then called her a derogatory term afterward, cops say
A Florida woman is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing a man she had met online just two days earlier, following a heated argument at her home in Homestead, according to police.
Zaryanna Marshall, 22, was arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred Saturday night in the 400 block of Southeast 35th Avenue, court records show.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Marshall invited the man to her residence after they connected on social media. During the visit, the two reportedly became involved in a verbal dispute. As the man began collecting his belongings to leave, Marshall allegedly searched his pockets for rolling papers used to smoke marijuana.
At that point, the man allegedly insulted her using a slur directed at individuals with intellectual disabilities. Marshall is accused of responding, “You wanna see retarded?” before grabbing a knife and stabbing the man once in the back of the neck, the complaint states.
Homestead police responded to a 911 call around 9:05 p.m. and found the victim at the scene. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where detectives later interviewed him.
During the interview, the victim confirmed he had met Marshall online two days earlier and had been staying at her home. He later identified her in a police photo lineup.
Marshall was arrested the following day. She told investigators she acted in self-defense, claiming the man had punched her in the face before she retrieved the knife. However, officers noted that she had no visible injuries and refused to be photographed for documentation.
Court records indicate Marshall was on probation and under house arrest at the time of the alleged stabbing. Her criminal history includes prior arrests for armed robbery in July 2025, domestic battery in 2023, and battery in 2022.
Marshall is scheduled to appear in court on September 9 to face the attempted murder charge.
