Creepy serial killer wore white-faced mask during prior burglary spree to hide black identity

An alleged serial killer accused of using dating apps to lure victims before robbing and killing them has been charged in Los Angeles County. Authorities say the suspect, 34-year-old Rockim Prowell of Inglewood, has a lengthy criminal history and may be linked to a series of burglaries across the region.
Prowell was charged Monday with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the deaths of Miguel Angel King, 51, in 2021, and Robert Gutierrez, 53, in 2023. He is also accused of attacking a third victim, Jordan Andrews, 40, in February 2025.
Prosecutors allege that Prowell met the men through dating apps, then assaulted, robbed, and in two cases, killed them. King was found fatally shot in the Angeles National Forest. Gutierrez’s body has not been located, but authorities say his vehicle was found in Prowell’s garage.
The third victim, Andrews, was allegedly tied up, beaten with a baseball bat, and robbed. Prosecutors say he managed to escape but was struck by a car driven by Prowell, resulting in a broken leg.
Prowell was already on probation for two prior burglary convictions between 2019 and 2021. Authorities believe he may be connected to up to 30 burglaries throughout Los Angeles. During those crimes, investigators say Prowell wore a rubber “white-face” mask in an apparent effort to disguise his identity, as captured on security footage. Police recovered the mask during a traffic stop involving a vehicle linked to the burglaries.
“Imagine the terror and horror these victims felt after being duped into believing they were meeting for one reason, only to face inexplicable violence,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman in a statement.
Prowell now faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, carjacking, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $2 million bail.
