A pair of women accused of shoplifting more than $2,000 worth of clothing from a TJ Maxx in Massachusetts didn’t get far before being caught—while waiting in line at a nearby Wendy’s drive-thru.
Auburn police reported that around 2 p.m. Wednesday, a TJ Maxx employee alerted them that two women had just stolen merchandise and fled in a black Ford Edge with Connecticut license plates.
In a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post, police noted the suspects’ unusual choice to stop for fast food just across the street from the scene of the theft. “Apparently satisfied with their five-finger discount, they decided to celebrate with a pit stop at Wendy’s—because nothing says ‘perfect getaway’ like sitting in a drive-thru line right across from the store you just robbed,” the post read.
Luckily, a sergeant patrolling nearby spotted the vehicle in the drive-thru and quickly intervened. The two women, identified as Dominque Marion, 38, of Worcester, and Tynaja Williams, 24, of New Haven, Connecticut, were arrested and charged with larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy.
Police found the stolen TJ Maxx merchandise in plain sight inside the car, valued at over $2,000. While searching the vehicle, officers also uncovered a large amount of additional stolen items believed to be from other local stores. Authorities are coordinating with neighboring departments to return the property and may file further charges.
The police closed their post with a humorous reminder: “Felonies do not come with a side of fries.”
