Renowned author Stephen King sparked controversy this week by suggesting that many supporters of President Donald Trump will eventually deny ever backing him. In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, the 77-year-old novelist predicted a future in which Trump voters attempt to rewrite their personal history.

“Twenty or 30 years down the line, when I’ll be dead and you’ll be old, I think a lot of people are going to say, ‘Well, I never voted for Trump,’” King said. Drawing a parallel to a famous moment in sports history, he added, “There are tens of thousands of people who say, ‘I saw Bobby Thomson hit that home run,’ and there were only, like, 5,000 people in the stands that day.”

The Biden White House was quick to dismiss King’s remarks, with spokesperson Abigail Jackson responding via Fox News Digital: “Since Stephen has spent so long writing fiction, it’s understandable that he’d have no grasp on reality.”

In the interview, King also harshly criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies, comparing them to dystopian literature. He likened the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to “Gestapo agents in the street,” adding, “They call themselves ICE, but they’re basically guys that are armed, they are wearing masks, they have huge amounts of money to spend and they are everywhere.”

King, a long-time critic of Trump, acknowledged the irony that many of his fans may still support the former president. “I’m aware of it. There’s never been, you know, an organized boycott,” he said, before emphasizing his commitment to speaking out: “I feel I have an obligation to say what I think and be clear about it. It’s a question, like the song says, ‘Which side are you on?’” — a reference to the folk song popularized by Pete Seeger.

King, best known for novels like Carrie and The Shining, has been a vocal political commentator in recent years, often using his platform to express his views on U.S. leadership and policy.
