A Southern California man is celebrating the success of his unbreakable glass product after it thwarted a group of smash-and-grab robbers trying to target a Sherman Oaks jewelry store.

On September 3, a group of suspects stormed Kristof’s Jewelers at Westfield Fashion Square mall, armed with large hammers. They began smashing the store’s glass display cases, sending alarmed shoppers fleeing for cover. Despite their aggressive attempts, the glass remained intact, and the robbers quickly abandoned their mission and fled the scene.

The store’s owner confirmed that while the display cases suffered some damage, no jewelry or merchandise was stolen.

Ray Tissan, owner of RT Unbreakable Glass, expressed his pride in the role his product played in stopping the attempted theft. Tissan, who developed the polycarbonate unbreakable glass after experiencing burglaries as a business owner, shared his inspiration with KTLA’s Rick Chamber. “There were a lot of break-ins back then, especially at liquor stores and small shops,” he said.

While polycarbonate glass has been available for some time, Tissan found a way to tailor it to fit the specific needs of various businesses. By customizing the glass sheets for different applications, he created a versatile solution that appealed to a wide range of industries.

After promoting his product on social media, Tissan saw a surge in interest and orders, with many store owners across Southern California opting to install the unbreakable glass in their doors, windows, and even walls and ceilings.

As retail theft continues to rise in the region, Tissan expressed pride in knowing that his innovation is helping protect local businesses. “It feels great to know our product is making a difference,” he said.
