Wedding Crasher Steals $60K in Gift Box
A wedding celebration in Los Angeles took a shocking turn when a thief made off with a gift box containing at least $60,000—and possibly up to $100,000—in cash and checks. The incident occurred at the Renaissance Banquet Hall in Glendale, just northeast of Hollywood, and was only discovered after the suspect had already vanished into the night.
According to Glendale police, the man—described as bald and dressed in black—posed as a guest, mingling with attendees for over an hour and a half. Surveillance footage shows him using the restroom and even ordering a drink before grabbing the gift box from a table and fleeing the venue just after midnight on Sunday.
Security cameras captured the suspect escaping in the passenger seat of a newer model black Mercedes SUV. Authorities have since released still images from the footage, hoping the public can help identify him.
“It’s terrifying to know someone was watching us during such a private, intimate moment,” said the bride. “It feels like a complete violation.” She believes the stolen box may have contained as much as $100,000 in wedding gifts.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Glendale police.
