Trump: US Strike on Boat From Venezuela Killed 11
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that a U.S. military strike targeted a boat originating from Venezuela, killing 11 individuals he described as “terrorists.” The incident, which took place in international waters in the Caribbean, marks the first known operation of its kind since U.S. warships were deployed to the region last month.
“We just, over the last few minutes, literally shot out a drug-carrying boat — a lot of drugs in that boat,” Trump told reporters from the Oval Office. “And there’s more where that came from. We have a lot of drugs pouring into our country.”
Trump later shared more details on Truth Social, stating that U.S. forces, under his direct orders, launched a “kinetic strike” against what he called Tren de Aragua narcoterrorists. According to his post, the group was transporting illegal narcotics toward the United States when the strike occurred. He confirmed that no American personnel were harmed.
“Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America,” Trump wrote.
A video posted by the president appeared to show a high-speed boat erupting in flames after a bright explosion, the Associated Press reported.
The strike came just one day after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro issued a warning to the U.S. against attempting regime change. According to The New York Times, Maduro accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio—who left Tuesday for meetings in Mexico and Ecuador focused on drug cartels—of pushing policies that would “stain the Trump name with blood for centuries.”
